Slide away: Sweden's snow and ice playground
In Swedish Lapland, two designers have taken the idea of playing in the snow to a new level with an icy playground, created for the Kiruna Snow Festival but now a fixture for the whole of winter

Fun for all
The park is not just aimed at small children but is meant to be for everyone to enjoy. -
Eggs-actly what you want
As well as the two ice slides, the designers have created a large maze, a snow lantern and four egg-shaped seats and benches for (chilly) relaxation. -
Taking a peak
Surrounding the park are two snow hills, these serve as the start for the slide. The hills also provide somewhere to gaze out over the park – and maybe sneak a look at the maze from above. -

Lost and found
Strömqvist and Ekeroth say they want visitors “to feel like they are explorers finding a lost city in the middle of a snow and ice jungle”. -
High and mighty
The maze is three-metres high, and features walls made of ice from the Torne River and hard, packed snow. -
Glow on
When (or maybe if) you get to the middle of the maze you’ll find that sunlight gives the ice walls an eerie glow. -
Free, while it lasts
The park is free of charge, and open to visitors until the sun melts it – expected to be sometime in April. -
