• Anonymous asked how to make a Magazine cover like Seventeen’s.
• I use Photoshop CS5.

• Getting prepared: Search for “seventeen magazine cover” in Google Images. A horrible mess of Seventeen’s covers will show up. Make sure to have this window/tab open everytime during the proccess, it’ll help.
  Choose a picture. Usually, we found enormous faces of famous ladies on these covers, with white background.

1. THE COLORING. Coloring used on cover pictures is not very striking, just have in mind that cover-makers don’t have tumblr. Just make the picture brighter, and not vintage at all.
   
2. THE TITLE. I chose a very similar font to the original one (bloc kursiv). Go to Layer > Layer Style > Blending Options and enter these settings. 90% of the text in the cover is going to have this kind of shadow.
3. THE COLORS. In general, the colors of the letters are similar to the ones in the picture (clothes, hair, makeup) and very, very bright, sometimes it even HURTS, how BRIGHT they are. And “pure”, not pastels. Also black and white are important.
4. THE FONTS. From ordinary fonts (like Arial or Georgia) to “funny”, “girly” ones (mine: al kisah). Also, they use exclamation marks in 90% of their headlines.
5. OTHERS. I have noticed the use of rectangles under the text, brushstrokes, brackets and a long rectangle at the top of the page (make it with the Rectangle Tool and resize when it’s needed). Type “code bar” in Google to find code bars to add at some bottom corner in order to make the cover look more realistic.

Any questions, just ask :) I know this tutorial is not very specific, but believe me, making this kind of covers has NO merit. Just remember these three words: bright, intense and poor.
