Soon this trend was picked up by many other manufacturers and we are seeing many such smartphones getting launched every now and then. Over the last few months, many such phones have come from the Chinese manufacturers such as Vivo, Gionee, Meizu, Oppo, and so on. Even the affordable smartphone market has seen such a device and it is none other than the Micromax Canvas Infinity priced at Rs. 9,999.

Now, it looks like Xiaomi is also gearing up to launch one such affordable smartphone for its fans. We say so as a recent GizmoChina report citing the information from MyDrivers tips that we might come across a future Redmi phone launch with an 18:9 display.

Recently, Xiaomi released the Mi Mix 2, the second-generation bezel-less smartphone. Initially, the smartphone was speculated to make use of the full-screen panel from JDI but later it was mentioned that some panels are from Tianma, a Chinese maker. Later, Pan Jiutang, a popular analyst claimed that the Mi Mix 2 does not have and will not make use of the panel from Tainma.

In the meantime, the domestic screen maker has revealed that it is making 18:9 panels and these are expected to be used by an upcoming Redmi phone. The Redmi smartphone in question appears to be unspecified but we can expect it to be the Redmi Note 5 or Redmi Note 6.

We already know that the Redmi Note 5A is official with MIUI 9 and that the company is prepping to announce the Redmi Note 5, Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi 5A and more in the lineup. Eventually, we can expect the 18:9 display in the making to be featured on the Redmi Note 5 slated to be launched later this year.
