France coach Didier Deschamps has been talking about Ousmane Dembele after including the Barcelona star in his latest squad for games against Iceland and Germany.

Dembele has had a good start to the season with four goals already but was left out of the team which beat Tottenham 4-2 at Wembley on Wednesday.

Deschamps has been impressed with his early-season form but explained what he needs to do to get even better.

“He’s having a great start to the season with Barcelona and is scoring goals,” he said.

“He has attacking characteristics that let him unblock situations, but he has a margin for progression in a team where he has a lot of competition.

”I think that he’s not totally conscious of the demand that is placed at a high level, but he has characteristics that let him destabilise the opponent.

“If he keeps adding others, as he has done at the start of the season, he will be even better.”

It remains to be seen if Dembele will return to the Barcelona starting XI for Sunday’s trip to Valencia. The team played well against Spurs, and Ernesto Valverde has plenty of decisions to make regarding who will start at Mestalla.
