Rio Ferdinand insists Tottenham need to find room for Tanguy Ndombele

Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Tottenham need to get Tanguy Ndombele into their team moving forward and would prefer them to have a three-man midfield.

The 23-year-old Frenchman came on as a second-half substitute on Wednesday night during a 1-0 home defeat against RB Leipzig.

Jose Mourinho’s team were beaten in the first leg of a Champions League last-16 tie and now need to try overturn the aggregate scoreline when they travel to Germany on 10 March.

The North London club piled on the pressure late on, but found it difficult against Leipzig for large spells and the Bundesliga side got a deserved goal through Timo Werner’s penalty.

BT Sport pundit Ferdinand feels that Ndombele can be a big boost if he nails down a regular spot in the starting XI.

“When we saw Ndombele I think he’s someone they need to try get a place in the team, they had the opportunity to play three in midfield because they are going to get outnumbered week in week out playing two in there,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

TBR’s View:

Ndombele has had his injury problems during his debut season with Spurs, but when he’s played he has looked a class act.

The central midfielder looked to drive the hosts forward during his time on the pitch against Leipzig, but he’s being eased back from a groin problem and isn’t ready for 90 minutes yet.

Him alongside Harry Winks and Giovani Lo Celso as a midfield trio is definitely something that should be looked at more.

With the injuries mounting up at Spurs this season, they could desperately do with Ndombele getting back up to full speed quickly.
