Sony Xperia 1 VI leaks in full, all specs detailed

Vlad, 14 May 2024

We are now only a few hours away from the official unveiling of Sony's Xperia 1 VI, its all-out flagship for this year, and as sometimes happens in these cases, a new leak has preempted basically all of Sony's event.

This leak fully details all of the phone's specs, most of which we've heard of before, and that's paired with some leaked images that seem to come from an internal source at the company - in fact, we wouldn't be surprised if some of these slides will be used at the presentation itself.

So let's dive in. The Xperia 1 VI will drop the 4K resolution screen, as has been rumored countless times before, but there's a twist - instead of going with the now very mainstream QHD+ resolution (or "2K" as Chinese companies like to call it), Sony went down to FHD+.

The screen will however be the brightest ever fitted to an Xperia. It will have 120 Hz refresh rate, LTPO technology for varying that from 1 Hz to 120 Hz, 240 Hz touch sampling rate, and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Expect to hear Bravia branding too, Sony being Sony.

The battery capacity is 5,000 mAh, which will allegedly deliver two days of use (whatever that means). At the helm unsurprisingly we find the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, and the phone comes with a Game Enhancer, an FPS Optimizer, and a vapor chamber for better performance while gaming.

The Xperia 1 VI is 8.2mm thick and weighs 192g, and it comes with both IP65 and IP68 ratings for dust and water resistance. When it comes to water, the phone can withstand submersion, as most flagships do these days, but it's also tested for withstanding water jets.

The main camera is 48 MP equipped with an Exmor T lens with Zeiss optics, and it has a focal length that ranges from 24mm to 48mm. There's a 16mm ultrawide on board too, and a much-leaked telephoto that goes from 85mm all the way to 170mm. This also has telemacro capability and "AI-based posture recognition".

4K HDR video recording will be supported at 120fps, and camera-wise the biggest change aside from the new telephoto seems to be Sony finally deciding to merge all of its camera apps into one. Well, sort of. There will be a Camera app which merges the previous Photography Pro, Videography Pro, and Cinema Pro apps, but there will also be an additional Video Creator app.

The Xperia 1 VI comes with a larger shutter button than its predecessor, and a new speaker module, promising enhanced sound quality. Of course the 3.5 mm headphone jack is still in there too. The device supports 360 Reality Audio, Hi-Res Audio, Hi-Res Audio Wireless, DSEE Ultimate, and LDAC. Interestingly, it uses Snapdragon Sound and not a custom solution.

Typing this on my XZ2 Premium. Yes, 4K is a total waste! In fact I bet with the new bravia engine FHD content will look just as crisp on the 1 VI as native 4K did on 1 V. Much more Brightness and adaptive refresh rates are just awesome real-life feat...
