Model Ingmari Lamy Has an Advanced Degree in Boho Chic

Ingmari Lamy might have been spotted by a model scout while dancing the night away at a Paris hotspot in 1967, but at heart this nature lover, artist, and healer is a self-described “wood nymph.” Since the advent of Instagram, she’s also become an icon of advanced bohemian style.

“I never ever spend time planning what to wear; it’s more like it reveals itself to me and I accept,” Lamy recently revealed on her IG account, where images of sunsets mingle with those of get-ups, some of which she sews herself, that are as attention getting as her long, white-blonde hair. “I love the playfulness of fashion,” says the 71-year-old, who is unafraid to create an outfit around a neon bikini top, say, or wear a lacy slip-dress around town. This Stockholmer, who once designed her own line, and was a muse and assistant designer to Kenzo Takada, has a special affinity for textiles, which she often combines into multi-layered, midi-length looks.

Lamy can recall falling in love with her grandmother’s “epic wardrobe” as a child. When working in Paris, she would mix hand-me-downs, designer pieces, and flea market finds. While this potpourri approach to dressing runs counter to the more controlled manner of dress typical of Stockholm, it complements Lamy’s sensibility and is true to her style philosophy: “To love the poetry of the clothes I choose to wear.”
