The name Geranium comes from the Greek ‘geranos’ meaning ‘crane’ referring to the shape of the fruit capsule. Sanguineum refers to the red colour of the leaves in autumn.

A prostrate to ascending perennial, branched and hairy.

Grasslands, open woodland on calcareous soils.

Flowers

The flowers are purplish-pink with a white blotch in the centre.

Digitate leaflets are finger-like. Divided into 5 segments, each segment splits into three.
