Westminster’s ‘Best in Show’ Pekingese has central Pennsylvania ties

Three-year-old pooch outlasts 2,500 competitors

A Pekingese named Wasabi now holds the title of "best in show" at the 145th Westminster dog show.The 3-year-old, whose handler and breeder lives in Adams County, outlasted about 2,500 canine competitors to win the coveted honor.It's the fifth time the breed has won the title and it's the first time a dog from the toy group has been awarded "best in show" since 2013.The Westminster Dog Show is the second-oldest continuous sporting event in the U.S. after the Kentucky Derby.

A Pekingese named Wasabi now holds the title of "best in show" at the 145th Westminster dog show.

The 3-year-old, whose handler and breeder lives in Adams County, outlasted about 2,500 canine competitors to win the coveted honor.

It's the fifth time the breed has won the title and it's the first time a dog from the toy group has been awarded "best in show" since 2013.

The Westminster Dog Show is the second-oldest continuous sporting event in the U.S. after the Kentucky Derby.
