Staff Writer

Ellen Bogdan displays the coin that was given to her by Gen. Sverker Goranson, supreme commander of the Swedish Armed Forces. John Reichley, retired visitor coordination officer at Command and General Staff College on Fort Leavenworth, contacted Goranson a few weeks ago to rekindle their relationship and Goranson asked Reichley to present his coin. Bogdan is now chief of the CGSC Faculty and Staff Development Division.

Swedish Lt. Col. Sverker Goranson was a student in the “centennial class” of 1994 at the Command and General Staff College.

It was called the centennial class as it marked 100 years of international officer involvement at CGSC. He was a sociable officer and, with two international classmates, began the tradition of “The Gathering,” a Thursday afternoon meeting of international officers and friends.
