This is a very nice used example of a German Army Koppelschloß or belt buckle of the sort worn with a field uniform in the Nazi Wehrmacht. This original GOTT MIT UNS buckle has never been to a MAX Show or other militaria show and has never been in the hands of a collector or dealer, and was purchased recently from the daughter of the GI who brought it back to America 75+ years ago.

The one-piece steel buckle with its original leather tab still has about 85% of its original green paint on the inside and about 20% of its green paint on the front side in and around the detail of the center medallion. It shows honest wear and very old patina, and the buckle has the “salty” look of one that was in service for considerable time. The details of the deep relief round Gott mit Uns emblem on the other hand, are very crisp and without wear to the steel, even in the eagle and swastika or the “ropes” surrounding it in the design.

We can not decipher any manufacturer’s marks on the supple leather tab but we can see the faint outlines of two ovals that still remain. We show a close-up of the marking on the back of the Koppelschloß: an M above SS inside a ‘bell’ and the number 40 for the year of manufacture. This is logo is for the maker Matthias Salcher & Söhne of Wagstadt in the Reichsgau Sudetenland, now Bílovec in the Czech Republic. The belt buckle has conical sharply pointed pins for the belt holes.

This rare original steel Gott mit Uns World War II Nazi Army belt buckle from a rare maker, shows only honest use, and has never been messed with. Condition exactly as shown.
