CHEW WHAT?

Full English breakfast should NOT contain popular item, experts say – do you agree?

HASH browns have no place in a full English breakfast, say experts.

The fried grated potato treats have been dismissed as a “lazy American replacement” to bubble and squeak.

The English Breakfast Society warned they could open the floodgates to other unsuitable fillers, like chips — branded a “cheap plate filler”.

A spokesman said: “Somebody has to draw the line and say, ‘No hash browns’.

“They are served by those who lack pride in the English breakfast tradition.

“Because if we let the hash browns thing slide and become part of the tradition, what’s next? Fish fingers? Kebab meat?”

The society’s hardline stance on hash browns — which first appeared on breakfast menus in New York in the 1890s — was backed by Brits.

One said: “This is the important stuff in life.”

Another said: “Thank you. Finally someone has drawn a line in the sand. I hate the things.”

The society says a full English consists of sausage, bacon, fried egg, grilled tomato, baked beans, mushrooms, black pudding and toast.

It should be served with tea or coffee and orange juice.

And it says it should be accompanied by a selection of newspapers — with your super Sun on top, of course.
