ANDY CARROLL has completed the "most random transfer ever" to French side Amiens.

And he has also bizarrely taken the No99 shirt with his new side - having last worn the No2 jersey.

The former England striker's move from Reading was confirmed on transfer deadline day.

And Carroll was announced by Ligue 2 Amiens with a flamboyant welcome video, leaving fans stunned.

However, they were even more baffled by Carroll's choice of shirt number, with many hailing the move as "the most random transfer ever."

One fan said: "There he is, the angel of the north."

Another declared: "Carroll 99 jersey, take my money."

One noted: "Always a north ender."

Carroll, 34, joins just a year after signing for Reading, who were relegated from the Championship last season.

He started their first two League One matches this season, but has now quit the Madejski for France.

It was revealed earlier this week that Carroll had hopped across the Channel to complete a deal with Amiens.

Fans have been left baffled by the switch.

One wrote: "The random signing of the year, Mr. Andy Carroll."

While a second tweeted that it was the: "Random transfer rumour of the day…"

A third added: "Winner of random transfer of the window."

Carroll will join up with former Chelsea youngster Gael Kakuta at Amiens.

The winger, 32, was on the Blues' books between 2009 and 2015.

This will be the first time in his career that Carroll has played abroad.

The nine-cap England international began at Newcastle United, before signing for Liverpool in an infamous £35million deal in January 2011.

Following 11 goals in 58 appearances for the Reds he joined West Ham, initially on loan, for an injury-hit stint.

After seven years at West Ham he made an emotional return to hometown club Newcastle in 2019.

An initial spell with Reading followed, before he switched to West Brom.
