Ask Miranda Kerr about her current skin care routine and you’ll get a few surprises in return. The supermodel’s preternatural glow once inspired us to painstakingly research and recreate everything we could find about her beauty staples (the short version: It involves a lot of oil). But, it turns out she still has a couple of complexion-perfecting secrets up her sleeve you might not know about — like the casual tidbit she recently dropped about getting leech facials. While that treatment doesn’t seem to be on her list anymore (her current favorites include oxygen facials, acupuncture facials, massages, infrared saunas, cold showers, and Korean body scrubs), she’s clearly got her own perspective on glam. With that in mind, we decided to ask for her help in stocking our bathroom cabinets this summer. Read on to find out what she gets from Sephora (where her line, Kora Organics, previously debuted), why she works out with face masks, and how she treats a pimple overnight.

Memorize your grandmother’s beauty secrets.

Surprisingly, Miranda’s best beauty tips don’t come from her many years of experience behind-the-scenes and on-set — but from her family. “My grandmother introduced me to noni when I was 13 and I would drink the juice every day,” she explains. “If I had a sunburn, I’d put it directly on my skin and notice how effective it was. I also noticed a different in my energy. Right now, the Noni Glow Face Oil is my favorite. It contains all of these great oils: rosehip, pomegranate, sea buckthorn, and obviously noni extract. I use it every night, I wake up, and my skin is literally glowing.” Her other longtime habit is one she credits to growing up in Australia. “We take sun protection pretty seriously,” she says. “I’m always in a big hat and cover my face as much as possible. I use Actinica, which is 50+ and protects against UVA and UVB.”

Upgrade your makeup with aromatherapy.

According to Miranda, every special event gets better if you add some uplifting scent to your getting-ready routine. “For the red carpet, I also always carry a little Heart Chakra Aromatherapy Oil,” she says. “Because it’s so transformative through the senses, I feel like when your energy is good and you’re feeling good, then you shine more. I believe in taking care of your mind, your body, and your skin — from the inside-out. For example, feeding your mind with positive affirmations and self-love when you’re using the oil. I use it as an alternative to perfume it feels really uplifting. When you use it on your pulse points, you’ll feel the vibrations of love through it.” And that philosophy doesn’t just apply to award shows, either. “When I’m traveling on planes, I always mist my face,” she says. “Depending on whether I want to go to sleep or not, I’ll use the Calming Lavender Mist or the Energizing Citrus Mist.

Put oil on your acne.

When faced with a surprise breakout that she needs to nix by the next morning, Miranda is firmly in the pro-oils camp. “I’ve noticed that a lot of my customers in America tend to be afraid of them, but they’re such a good source of vitamins,” she says. Her stance has scientific backing, too; according to dermatologist dermatologist Dr. Jessie Cheung, director of the Jessie Cheung MD Dermatology & Laser Center, the composition of certain oils makes them ideal for clearing up pimples. “The use of oils for cleansing is based on the scientific principle that like dissolves like, so oil will dissolve the sebum that clogs up our pores and cause acne, and without irritation,” she says.

“If I’m having a breakout, I like to balance the pH of my skin with my Noni Glow Oil,” adds Miranda. “I find that that really helps, even with treating it overnight. I put it on after cleansing, misting, exfoliating, and moisturizing — I’ll use my Exfoliating Cream every second night, too.”

Add a face mask to your workout routine.

Before she hit the Met Gala red carpet, Miranda gave fans a sneak peek at her unconventional prep: mask and ballet. Turns out it’s actually part of her regular routine. “I do face masks all the time, when I’m doing ballet or on phone calls,” she says. “I love being able to multitask and that’s the best way to do it.” While it may sound slightly weird, her Hydrating Mask is packed with calming ingredients like aloe and rose flower water — which are perfect for soothing inflammation and cooling you down. BRB, grabbing a tube for our next workout.
