It’s hard to imagine a world without Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s love story, but it turns out that they almost didn’t even meet at all — at least not in the way their romance began.
The newlyweds first crossed paths on the set of The Last Song in 2010, but Liam recently revealed that he nearly didn’t get the part. In an interview with Today scheduled to air on Sunday, February 17, Liam explained: “That was the first job I got [in the United States], and it was literally right at the end of my three-month visa…. They cast another kid, and it didn’t work out with him.”
Fortunately, Liam was next on the list. “My agent calls me like, whispering, like ‘You’ve got to go to Disney right now,” the Australian actor recalled. “‘It’s not working out with the other guy. You’ve got to go in and read with Miley again.’” And once he and Miley took the spotlight together, it was clear that their chemistry was undeniable. “I come in and everyone starts clapping like, ‘We should have gone with you first!’” Obviously.

It seems as though everything happened as it was supposed to, as Miley and Liam recently tied the knot in a low-key December wedding. The Isn’t It Romantic star recently revealed that Miley has taken his last name, officially becoming Mrs. Hemsworth. “We know how we feel about each other,” Liam said of their relationship and wedding day. “We just wanted to do something simple, organic, and with immediate family…it was a really, really special day.”
