When fans finished binge-watching Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life on Netflix, one question certainly remained loud and clear: would there be more episodes? The 4-part mini-series ended on a bit of a cliffhanger with – spoiler alert – the announcement that Rory was pregnant, so it would seem to make sense that there might be more seasons to come.
Actress Alexis Bledel, who plays Rory on the series, recently weighed in on the topic of a second reboot. While speaking on a panel to discuss her upcoming role in Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale, Alexis was asked about the possibility of more Gilmore Girls episodes.
Alexis expressed that she was open to it, but the timing would have to be right. "[A Year in the Life] came together so naturally, in a way," Alexis explained. "We had the fan reunion in Austin [at the ATX Television Festival] and we picked up momentum from there and it came together so quickly and it really seemed like the right thing. I think most of us are just wanting to tell a good story, and I think that came together in A Year in the Life. The only thing I can say about a future installment of the show is it would be about the story and certainly the timing."
Before Gilmore Girls fans get too excited about the prospect of another season, it's important to note that no official conversations have taken place yet – this is all mere speculation. Alexis added, "I haven’t heard anything. It hasn’t been a conversation as of yet."
That said, it seems like a handful of the actors would be totally game for another Stars Hollow reunion. Kelly Bishop, who portrays Emily Gilmore, told The Hollywood Reporter that she would "jump at the chance" to work with the Gilmore Girls team again. And Scott Patterson, AKA Luke Danes, was anything but grumpy about the possibility of more episodes. "It'd be nice to do it every year," he said. "Maybe every two years, do a three-month thing, do four more chapters."
Um, yes please. That sounds quite perfect.
