Description

A highly decorative shodana cabinet from the Meiji period.

  • A carved cabinet with a pierced crown of birds and foliage above a series of asymmetrical shelves and storage compartments.
  • Inset shelves are surrounded by additional carved molding and backed with inlaid panels.
  • Sliding and pull-front doors are inlaid similarly depicting birds and flowers.
  • Three lower drawers with inlaid fronts and raised on a carved base with curved legs.
