Gregory Wakeman Chicago Reader The Brothers Sun wastes its intriguing premise. Feb 9, 2024 Full Review Ronda Racha Penrice TheWrap The “Everything Everywhere All at Once” star shines without stealing the spotlight from leading men Justin Chien and Sam Song Li Rated: A Jan 26, 2024 Full Review Nicola Austin Empire Magazine One of 2024’s first binge-worthy shows. Come for another tour-de-force turn from Michelle Yeoh, stay for newcomer Justin Chien’s show-stealing breakout performance. Rated: 4/5 Jan 25, 2024 Full Review Steve Murray ArtsATL The show’s mix of frequent “humorous” violence, the kind that works in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, stumbles here, especially since the show seems to be pitched at a younger viewership. Feb 14, 2024 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media Propulsive and thrilling, this series has the vibe of action-thriller yarns like John Wick, but spreading the mayhem out over a season gives viewers ample time to get to know characters. Jan 24, 2024 Full Review Sayantan Gayen CBR The Brothers Sun may be a mixed bag, but in its journey to bring two brothers together, it inevitably finds a balance that shakes the foundations of the Sun family's principle, making the show a riveting watch till the end. John Y Spoilers! Spoilers! Spoilers! The mystery surrounding who was attacking mob bosses was interesting and hooked me in. But once they were revealed? I don't know. I wanted to enjoy this more than I did. Yeoh is a gangster? C'mon. This didn't feel right at all. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/14/24 Full Review Osama Bin M What a wonderful show . Really loved it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/29/24 Full Review Tom F Slick and entertaining, but in the end doesn’t say anything particularly interesting. Any chance to watch Michelle Yeoh is worth taking. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review Elicia R I had a great time watching this show. Representation matters, especially when it is this much fun. It’s unfortunate that they aren’t bringing it back for a second season. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review Peter B Some guy makes a cake, then another, then another, brief action sequence, then another guy drives for Uber, then I switched off due to tideous plot development overdose. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review Grimm Gaming R The Brothers Sun is an action series that stars Justin Chien in this breakout lead role where he kicks ass as the son of a Taiwanese triad head. This show follows his character, Charles, as he goes to LA to find his sheltered mother and brother after his father was shot, to reveal the truth behind their family. This show also stars Sam Li as Bruce, and the amazing Michelle Yeoh as their mother. The action in this series is hands down some of the best I've seen when it comes to how it's shot and the choreography. A lot of it is martial arts but it gives off this John Wick feel to how intense and entertaining it is. The story that follows this family and these triads I thought was interesting but there were times where I felt like my attention was veering and wasn't grabbed as much as I'd expect from an action/thriller. The family dynamic between Yeoh, Li, and Chien I thought was one of the best things about this series as Chien was able to rebuild this relationship with his family that he hadn't seen in many years. This series also has a whole mix of different tones which sometimes feels off but also works. There's many moments where the writers try to throw humor into this serious story and it sometimes works but other times just falls flat. Throughout this series you also get to see Charles evolve a bit as he is this ruthless, cold-hearted person with no emotions and by the second half of the story he is opening up more and is trying to protect his family, not out of order, but because he cares and i think that's one of the better things about this series. I thought the little chemistry between Charles and Alexis made for some great tension and a good subplot as she's a DA and Charles clearly has feelings but is untrusting of her because of her occupation and I think she kind of softened him up even more. I really recommend checking this show out as it's family friendly and lots of fun and kind of is panned to younger generations with the humor and silly tones this show presents. Overall, The Brothers Sun is a very well developed action series that spends time making the story top quality but fails to keep me invested throughout and makes up for it with the family dynamics and the great amount of action.
