      Critics Consensus

It lacks the surprising jolt of the first installment, but [REC] 2 almost maintains the original's chilling momentum -- and proves not all horror sequels were made equal.

matthias s "Rec 2" is a horror film that falls short of expectations. While the first "Rec" movie was thrilling and suspenseful, this sequel fails to capture the same level of intensity. The plot feels convoluted and confusing at times, with too many characters wich makes stupid decisions and subplots to keep track of. The scares are also predictable, relying on cheap jump scares rather than building a sense of dread. "Rec 2" is a disappointing follow-up to its predecessor and not worth the time for fans of the horror genre. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Actually reviewing the first REC, but can’t find it on Flixster, so leaving this review here. It’s fine, a pretty good take on the found footage horror style, but doesn’t break much new ground. After a while the scares get repetitive. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/14/23 Full Review L S Thrills and spills galore. A brilliantly suitable sequel to the excellent first that holds it's own throughout. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/20/23 Full Review James L Too whacky and not as serious as the first one. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/05/23 Full Review Gage A It feels like resident evil but with same story in the first one, but it has a few problems on it 8/10 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/01/22 Full Review jose b The movie definitely keeps you on your toes but heres my bad movie reasoning. A swat team cameraman does absolutely nothing the entire movie in terms of assisting the team during "conflicts" with the "demonic" zombies. The man was useless. Had a swat cameraman provided more assistance (held a gun with one hand in the majority of the cases it was required) i would've rated it better or provided a better rating.
