If you're looking for a mega dose of kawaii, look no further, because this list is dedicated to the cutest anime characters the medium has to offer.

Cute anime characters can appear in any genre, but they tend to be concentrated in the slice of life genre - Nadeshiko Kagamihara from Laid Back Camp, a relaxing anime about camping, comes to mind. There are some notable exceptions from shonen, like Izuku Midoriya as a little kid, and Rem from Re:Zero. There are even some cute anime characters from sports anime - Onoda Sakamichi will have you singing the Love Hime theme song long after you've finished Yowamushi Pedal.

Be prepared for your heart to explode from all the adorableness.

Most divisive: Bojji - 'Ranking of Kings'
Over 24.5K Ranker voters have come together to rank this list of The 30 Cutest Anime Characters Of All Time
  • After being turned into a demon, Nezuko and her brother Tanjiro search for a way to turn her back. And although it's in a demon's nature to eat humans, Nezuko is able to suppress her instincts and retain her humanity. Who knew a demon could be so cute?

  • Anya might have psychic powers created through human experimentation, but that doesn’t make her creepy - it makes her cute as heck. When she’s adopted by Loid Forger as part of a spy mission, she’s thrilled to be involved in a plot that resembles the spy-themed TV shows she loves - and she’s even more thrilled to have a caring parent who will buy her peanuts whenever she wants.

  • After suffering from brutal experiments at the hands of Overhaul, Eri is saved by Deku and his team. Although she is still traumatized by the events of her past, Eri starts to heal for the first time during the U.A. School Festival. It's pretty much impossible to not love this adorable character after seeing her smile for the first time while at Class 1-A's concert.

  • Kanna Kamui might be a powerful dragon, but she's also an adorable little girl. Initially, she wants to bring Tohru back to the dragon realm, but she ends up becoming Tohru and Kobayashi's daughter figure and attending third grade in a Japanese public school.

  • The Platelets are super cute representations of an actual component of human blood cells. Their job is to create fibrin, which they use to patch up wounds and stop blood from leaving the body.

  • There's a reason why Chika's dance sequence in Kaguya-sama: Love is War went viral on the Internet. She's absolutely adorable - and hilarious. As the Student Council's secretary, she often finds strange activities to do with her fellow council members such as playing silly games or teaching the President how to play volleyball. Her bubbly, eccentric personality is what makes her a popular character in the series.

  • Shiro is a super smart 11-year-old girl who spends most of her time gaming with her older brother. When the two of them are transported to another world where gaming carries real consquences she's able to fully display her hidden brilliance - and look precious while doing so.

  • What Yui Hirasawa lacks in musical ability, she makes up for in cuteness! Okay, she actually does get pretty good at music by the time her band performs at the end of K-On!

  • Ushio Okazaki is the very young daughter of Tomoya and Nagisa, the couple at the center of CLANNAD. Though she isn't the happiest or healthiest little girl, it's hard not to fall in love with her.

  • Rem - 'Re:ZERO'

Rem is one of the two twin maids who works for Roswaal L Mathers. She's shy, self effacing, and polite at all times.

  • Rikka Takanashi has chuunibyo or 'eigth grader syndrome' which means that she believes she has special powers. This could come across as frightening or pathetic, but Rikka makes it look charming.

  • Umaru Doma pretends to be stylish and mature, but she's actually much cuter when she's being her true self. Her true self loves loafing around at home playing video games and eating junk food.

  • If you call Taiga Aisaka cute, she'll probably punch you in the face. That doesn't make this tsundere any less adorable - especially on the rare occasions that she's actually nice.

  • Kotarou Kashima is a toddler who attends daycare at the school where his older brother Ryuuichi works. He's very quiet, but he loves helping others and works hard to do so - once spending a whole hour trying to squeeze out lemon juice for his brother's medicine.

  • Nadeshiko Kagamihara has just started learning the joys of wintertime camping. She can be a little clumsy and forgetful, but coupled with her enthusiastic spirit, those things only make her cuter.

  • Tsumugi Inuzuka is a three-year-old girl who is made all the more cute by the fact that she actually acts like a real three-year-old. She spends Sweetness & Lightning learning to cook with her father, Kohei.

  • Miri is the energetic and unpredictable child of the Buddy Daddies series. After her search for her papa on Christmas Eve takes an unexpected turn, she ends up with a new life and a new family. Although she does ruin her adoptive dads' plans every now and then, you can tell she has a huge heart and lots of love to give, which makes her nothing short of an adorable main character.

  • Mitsukuni Haninozuka plays up his own adorableness in order to get business for the Host Club, but that doesn't mean he's not actually cute. He has a close friendship with Takashi Morinozuka, his endlessly loyal cousin.

  • Every popular anime needs an adorable animal sidekick, and Chopper certainly fits the bill. Not only does he look cute and fluffy, he has an incredibly wholesome dream: to become a doctor who can cure any illness. His kind-hearted nature and love for his friends is what makes Chopper such a loveable character.

  • Tsukasa Hiiragi is one of many cute characters in Lucky Star. She's a good cook and loves sleeping.

  • Reina Aharen is proof that you don’t have to have strong social skills or understand personal space to be adorable. Known to her classmates as Aharen-san, this girl is constantly clinging to other people like a koala - either that or she’s so far away you can’t hear her. Luckily, she has Raidou Matsuboshi to understand her and help her out.

  • Kisa Sohma is affected by the family's Zodiac curse, which means that when she's embraced by a member of the opposite sex, she transforms into a tiger. She's very shy, but when she gets attached to someone she follows them around like a baby chick.

  • Naru Kotoishi is an island-dwelling little girl who has made it her life's mission to get Seishuu Handa - a grouchy adult who is so focused on his calligraphy career that he can't enjoy anything else - to actually get out and spend time with other people. Not only is Naru super cute, she's also perceptive and compassionate beyond her years.

  • Izuku Midoriya is a hero-in-training who is sometimes more badass than cute - but in the flashbacks where he's geeking out over his hero All Might, he's one of the cutest anime characters to ever exist.

  • Free! doesn't normally deal in adorable - the characters are mostly supposed to be hot - but Nagisa is an exception. When other people are in a bad mood or can't get along, he's the first person to try and soothe them with silly jokes or a smile.

  • Kotaro isn’t a normal four-year-old. He’s just as cute as one, but he’s far smarter and far more independent than one would expect from a kid his age. In fact, he’s got his act together so well that he’s able to live by himself - and solve problems a lot more easily than the adults around him. But he still displays childlike emotions, adding to the overall sense that he’s cute as heck.

  • As the heir to the Bosse Kingdom, Prince Bojji has a lot of responsibilities for such a little guy. Not everyone thinks he’s capable of getting the job done because he’s deaf and has trouble communicating in ways that the people around him understand. But he shows that he’s fully capable of being an excellent leader - and an adorable one to boot.

  • Charmy is simultaneously the most adorable and relatable character in Black Clover. She loves food more than anyone in the entire kingdom. As a dwarf-human hybrid, she appears to be incredibly small, only adding to her cuteness. Whether it's stuffing her face with delicious food or using her adorable cotton magic, Charmy is definitely the most wholesome character in the series.

  • Momo is the youngest of the three Kawamoto sisters. Despite growing up without her parents, this adorable three-year-old is as cheerful and happy as ever thanks to her loving older sisters and grandfather. Her bright personality always cheers up the melancholy Rei Kiriyama, even moving him to tears at one point.

  • As one of the few girls in her village, March only has one wish: to quickly become a mama. While her little dream mostly stems from playing "house" with her dolls, she ends up becoming a mother figure of sorts to the immortal being, Fushi — and it's pretty darn adorable. Despite all of the tragic things that happen to her, she manages to bring a smile to everyone's faces with her cute and hilarious antics. March is definitely one of the most endearing child characters in anime.
