Disney should celebrate Robin Hood

This is Disney Productions’ 100th year, but it also marks the 50th anniversary of the Disney depiction of Robin Hood, whose film debuted Nov. 8, 1973. So when Disney starts producing Disney 100th anniversary merchandise, let’s not forget to include Robin Hood in the merchandising parade.

Embrace our differences, don’t use them as weapons

Every American is familiar with this idea: All men are created equal, and they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, including the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. To be sure, not every American knows a divine creator, but every person on this planet is a unique and precious offspring of nature and of the systems of physics, chemistry and biology that govern our existence. What does this mean for our purpose as human beings? That we should tend and care for everyone, that we should love and serve our neighbors, and that we should protect the ecosystems that sustain life on earth.

A great many people of all ages, colors, genders, nationalities, and religious or nonreligious backgrounds are living, working, and speaking daily within this moral and ethical framework. These are the WOKE: the people who embrace the Wellsprings Of Knowledge and Enlightenment.

In Tallahassee there are enemies of the WOKE, those who wish to stamp out every vestige of difference and turn everybody into sleepwalking clones of themselves. They ferret out signs of awakened hearts and minds, signs of people who are “free to be you and me,” as Marlo Thomas put it, signs that others know something they don’t know about life on this planet and the way it is set up to work — through cooperation and tolerance, and through love and service to others and to ourselves as separate but interdependent creatures.

If we as Americans — and as members of the human race — are to build a more perfect union and sustain our natural environment, we must elect leaders who are WOKE to these truths, not those who cannot bear that anyone should look different, act different or hold different opinions. We must cherish each other. We must work and vote for peace on Earth for the beloved community to grow and spread.

‘Woke’ issues mask real problems

My monthly mortgage payment is due to increase by 67% due to the ongoing insurance crisis in Florida. Fortunately, our state Legislature has focused on the real problems we face, and I don’t have to worry about school children using the wrong restroom, reading the wrong books, or Heaven forbid, attending a drag brunch. … I can sleep soundly at night knowing how “free” we all are while I try to figure out where to cut back on other expenses so I can afford to live in my duplex.
