I still dream of Dynamic charging as an elegant and multi-valued solution to the “long distance off the rails => huge battery” curse … But how many "killers" to overcome, both for the target and, even more difficult, for the mandatory deployment steps that will each need to motivate the numerous stakeholders! Happy to see the progresses in both performances and value assessments, and the growing ambition of real-life experiments, as an example this short term initiative in Sweden targeting 21 km on E20 motorway for 2025, almost tomorrow! Even better, solutions covering both trucks and cars are still in the race … : “The project is currently at the procurement stage and is planned to be built by 2025. The charging method for E20 hasn’t been decided but there are three types of charging: catenary system, conductive (ground-based) system, and inductive system.” (either Very agile System of Systems Engineering is expected ;-), or maybe 3 full-size concurrent pre-studies already took place about the 3 competing solutions, involving right partners?) #ElectricVehicle #DynamicCharging #SustenableMobility #longdistance

Why system boundary is important? I have a chance to ride the beautiful fresh #ICE3neo (https://lnkd.in/e4SXk-3c) from Stuttgart to Augsburg. The train departs a bit later because its driver wasn't educated to operate this new model. Spoiler alert: I genuinely believe that all Germans live in future, German Railways manage a very complex system, and I'm really surprised of and happy with the results. I use this example not to show off and not to point at a mistake of really professional people, but to make it clear, where systems thinking helps. It's to show how one applies systems thinking to make successful products. Imagine: you develop, produce and deliver a train system. What do you think belongs to your product? "Well, the train itself", - would you say. Maybe you'll think about some parts of it. Maybe a user manual. But will your product be useful (and in that sense - successful), if there will be no educated operators for it? No, it will not. Your beautiful product will rust in the middle of nowhere. And you will get no orders in future, your enterprise go bancrupt and you'll find yourself living under a bridge. So you have to admit: an operator is a part of your product. And you are responsible for the delivery of this part: either by educating them yourself or by "hiring" educating suppliers (yes, your customer can be your supplier as well). So, long story short, an operator is within system boundaries of your product. Even if it appears to be an employee of another company and it acts after you sell your product. Now, apply that on what you are doing. It's more productive than to yak about how Deutsche Bahn is not so perfect how you want it to be ;)

🤯 The long-awaited BRT R6 Scott Road RapidBus is finally here!  In this video, I explained the logic of the R6 and answered three popular questions I received while volunteering at the TransLink R6 public engagement booth. 1.
