The first of the Scandinavian Cessnas are expected to be converted from 2026 once Dovetail secures regulatory certification of its battery-electric powertrain, which will be test flown next year on an amphibious Cessna Caravan operated by Australia’s Sydney Seaplanes, a co-founder of Dovetail. 🔶️Hungary | Wizz Air announced a goal of powering 10% of its flights with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by 2030. To achieve this, Wizz Air partnered with @Firefly, a UK-based company that is developing a sewage-to-SAF technology. While aviation turns to batteries for sustainability, the rail sector unveils Europe's first-ever fleet of battery-powered trains! Introducing the remarkable Hitachi Masaccio trains, affectionately known as the "Blues," now operating in Italy! This game-changing project, with a budget of 1.23 billion euros, will bring 135 battery-powered trains to Trenitalia's network, serving Calabria, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Tuscany, Sicily, and Sardinia. But here's the catch—these Blues won't be found on every train, so it's a delightful surprise for lucky travelers! The hybrid three- and four-carriage trains, accommodating 300 passengers, operate on a combination of battery, electric, and diesel power. Trenitalia proudly states, "It is the first time that batteries are used as the main energy source on a fleet of trains for commercial use in Europe." Embracing sustainability, the fleet is made from 93% recyclable materials, reducing carbon emissions and fuel consumption by a remarkable 50% compared to diesel trains. By running on batteries through urban areas, these trains eliminate emissions and minimize noise pollution. An intelligent "driver advisory system" guides optimal speed to reduce energy consumption. Cebu Pacific has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Neste, the world’s leading producer of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), to explore the supply and purchase of sustainable aviation fuel in Asia Pacific. SAF, an alternative fuel made from sustainable feedstocks, holds significant potential to reduce carbon emissions of air travel by up to 80 percent over the fuel’s life cycle compared to using conventional jet fuel.  “Carbon emissions are a pressing concern in the aviation industry. To this end, Cebu Pacific has laid out initiatives to address our emissions footprint, with a primary focus on integrating SAF in its operations. Finnish Lygg partners with Electra in a billion-euro deal to revolutionize sustainable air travel Vantaa-based company LYGG has inked a monumental billion-euro deal with the U.S.-based hybrid aircraft manufacturer, Electra.aero. This collaboration signals a pivotal stride towards transforming air travel into a more eco-friendly and efficient mode of transportation. The partnership paves the way for the introduction of up to 300 hybrid aircraft by 2028. These cutting-edge aircraft, designed by Electra, will be integrated into Lygg’s operational model, promising direct connections and a remarkable reduction in carbon emissions by utilizing renewable Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). With this landmark agreement, Lygg secures the exclusive right to offer its operators the purchase of 150 Electra hybrid planes initially, with an option for an additional 150, culminating in a colossal €1 billion deal. Kenya Airways has become the first African airline to fly possibly the most sustainable commercial long-haul flight from Africa to Europe. The flight that is part of the Sustainable Flight Challenge (TSFC), between SkyTeam member airlines brings together 22 airlines for a friendly competition to achieve the most sustainable flight possible. S’pore has ‘no choice’ but to require airlines to use sustainable fuel in green push: CAAS chief Summary: Singapore's Civil Aviation Authority (CAAS) has mandated the use of sustainable aviation fuel for flights departing from 2026, acknowledging the inevitable rise in air travel costs. This decision aligns with global environmental goals but raises concerns about the potential impact on Singapore’s competitiveness as an air hub. CAAS Director-General Han Kok Juan emphasized the necessity of this move for environmental sustainability, despite the challenges it presents. The introduction of a green jet fuel levy will lead to increased airfare costs, with economy-class passengers paying an estimated additional $3 to $16, depending on the flight distance. The initiative aims to have sustainable fuel constitute 1% of all jet fuel used at Changi and Seletar airports by 2026, with ambitions to reach 3-5% by 2030. This conservative starting point is seen as a step towards building a sustainable fuel ecosystem and increasing green fuel production capabilities in Singapore and the region. CAAS plans to centrally procure eco-friendly aviation fuel, leveraging economies of scale to minimize costs in the initial years. The authority is also engaging with energy and financial sectors to adopt green jet fuel cost-effectively. Strategies include diversifying suppliers and negotiating a mix of contract terms to keep fuel costs affordable. However, a government mandate was deemed necessary to ensure a significant shift towards sustainable aviation fuel usage, as voluntary passenger contributions proved insufficient in previous trials. Sustainable jet fuel is critical for the aviation industry to meet its net-zero emissions goals, accounting for an estimated 65% of the required reduction in carbon emissions. The initiative also includes improving air traffic management and implementing solar panels to achieve the remaining emissions reduction. The transition from traditional key-based car reservations to a mobile-based application exemplifies the airport's commitment to efficiency and sustainability. Before Fleet Complete, the process of reserving a car involved multiple steps – from security clearance to manually picking up and returning keys. Now the airport employees can reserve a vehicle in a few taps to save time and reduce logistical headaches. 🌱 More importantly, this move aligns with Tallinn Airport's ambitious goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. SIRIUS AVIATION AG will provide ten hydrogen-powered vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft to PARQ Development for flights in Bali through a partnership announced on March 25. The $50 million agreement will help one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations decarbonize its aviation and travel sectors. ✈️ PARQ Development will receive five Sirius Millenium Jets and five Sirius Business Jets for enhanced air connectivity across Bali and nearby islands. Unlike traditional aircraft, the Sirius jets emit zero carbon dioxide emissions since they are powered entirely by hydrogen. ✈️ Sirius Aviation will develop hydrogen VTOL infrastructure in Bali by establishing five vertiports and five hydrogen generators. These projects will facilitate economic growth without damaging the environment. ✈️ Sirius Aviation CEO Alexey Popov said the partnership will emphasize zero-emission tourism and sustainable development. PARQ Development Founder Andre Frey added that hydrogen-powered flights will create “unforgettable journeys” for travelers. ✈️ PARQ Development will develop tourist routes and infrastructure to introduce new destinations to tourists.
