Former Seattle mayor's son pleads not guilty to child porn charges

Jack Francis Lynch McGinn was arrested March 29 and told investigators he downloaded at least 100 files onto his computer.

SEATTLE — The son of former Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn pleaded not guilty to two child pornography charges on Monday, April 15.

Jack Francis Lynch McGinn faces one count of dealing in depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct in the first degree and possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct in the first degree.

McGinn previously posted bail. He is prohibited from having contact with minors and cannot use the internet without a computer monitoring system.

He is due back in court on June 4.

On Friday, March 29, Seattle's Internet Crimes Against Children unit served a warrant at McGinn's home in the Greenwood neighborhood, where he was arrested. According to charging documents, McGinn initially stated he views adult pornography multiple times a week. After being questioned further, McGinn "admitted to downloading at least a hundred files continuing images or videos of underage children involved in sexually explicit conduct."

According to charging documents, McGinn previously told investigators he has a cocaine addiction. He said, according to the documents, that he goes on "weekend benders," which is when he views the child sex abuse material on his computer.

A person who stated he is friends with the McGinn family told investigators Jack McGinn's parents moved to the East Coast "a year or two ago" and Jack McGinn moved into their Greenwood home.

Mike McGinn served one term as Seattle mayor from 2010 to 2013. He lost his bid for reelection in 2013, losing to Ed Murray. He ran again in 2017 but lost to Jenny Durkan.
