Description:
Male Red-tailed Bumblebee, Bombus lapidarius. Bees maintain a medium sized colony of 100-200 bees. B ladpidarious nests underground in hard dry areas .Prefers open habitat such as grasslands. Diet is pollen and nectar. B lapidarius is host nest for the cuckoo bee, B. rupestris. Queen can be as large as 22mm, but males and workers are smaller and variable size.
