While no official announcement has been made by US punk rock band Green Day, music news website NME reported on December 21 that a spokeswoman for the band confirmed they will release a new live album in March 2011.
The album, a two-disc set of live recordings titled Awesome As Fuck, is listed by online retailers such as Amazon as having a US and UK release date of March 15.
In August, the band first announced via Twitter that they were planning a new live album. "We've been recording our live shows since the beginning of tour," they wrote, referring to their 2009-2010 world tour in support of the LP 21st Century Breakdown. "Possible live album coming."
Green Day has sold over 65 million records worldwide and won four Grammy Awards. The band's last live album, 2006's Bullet in a Bible, was recorded live in the UK in 2005. Recently Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong appeared in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical the band helped create, American Idiot - based on the multi-platinum album American Idiot - this fall, and he plans to return to the stage in 2011.
