Jockey Club Community Arts Biennale 2015 - Urban Knitting Teachers Workshop

05/02/2015

The city’s first yarn bomber Esther Poon is known for wrapping colourful knitted creations around railings, trees, road signs and fences across Hong Kong, particularly in the streets of Sheung Wan. This playful, guerilla-style street knitting brightens up the city, brings a smile to the faces of those lucky enough to catch a glimpse, and creates interesting juxtapositions with Hong Kong’s shiny, modern architecture.

As part of Jockey Club Community Arts Biennale 2015, we have made it our mission to knit a colourful cover for Lek Yuen Bridge, a pedestrian walkway crossing Shing Mun River!

During the teacher’s workshop, Esther will demonstrate the basic techniques of crocheting. Participating teachers will then receive art materials for each of their students to create an individual crochet patch. The resulting patches will be sewn together and knitted onto the bridge in April for the Biennale… to call it a wrap!
