Despite stepping out for several award shows this season, Selena Gomez was unfortunately not present at tonight’s Oscars.
To our delight, the “Love On” singer has attended the Golden Globes, Emmys, and SAG Awards this year. Gomez’s glamorous outings have been full of steamy PDA between her and her music-producer beau Benny Blanco, breathtaking ensembles worthy of their own awards, and the sweetest interactions with fellow industry icons, like Reese Witherspoon. Although we are just as bummed as the next Selenator that this evening’s 96th Academy Awards will not have any of the aforementioned in store, her reason for skipping isn’t much of a surprise.
The Spring Breakers star was not nominated for any Academy Awards this year. (Indeed, she has never received an Oscar nod.) She is also not among the presenters or performers for the night. In fact, the last time Gomez attended an Oscars event was in 2016, when she walked the carpet at the Vanity Fair after-party.
Gomez’s most recent award show appearance was in February, at the 30th Screen Actors Guild Awards. She and the rest of the Only Murders in the Building cast were up for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series (which ultimately went to the cast of The Bear). While some weeks have passed since the big night, we are still thinking about her custom Atelier Versace gown. Gomez went full bridal glam for the occasion, in a sparkly opulent-white dress that featured a curve-hugging construction, corset boning along the bodice, a scoop neckline with spaghetti straps adorned with the fashion house’s Medusa icon, and a trailing skirt that pooled behind her like a seashell.
