First move abroad for Hammers cult hero as Amiens bid for promotion to Ligue 1

Carroll is set to join Ligue 2 side Amiens to help their bid for promotion to the French top flight.

According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna and Get French Football News Carroll has already flown to Picardi for a medical ahead of completing the transfer.

And just the final details need to be smoothed over before Carroll is an Amiens player.

It will be the former West Ham man’s first taste of football outside of England following spells with Newcastle, Preston, Liverpool, the Hammers, boyhood club Newcastle again and West Brom sandwiched between two separate spells at Reading.

Across seven seasons from 2012 to 2019, Carroll played 142 times for West Ham scoring 34 goals.

Despite his time at West Ham being blighted – like much of his career – by injuries, the fact he is so fondly remembered tells you everything about his commitment to the cause when he did play.

West Ham fans will undoubtedly be keeping one eye on how he gets on over in France.
