Chris Oxlade is the best-selling author of more than 150 non-fiction books, most of them explaining complex scientific ideas and modern technology to young readers in readable text.
An informational book about large machines for beginning readers. The text structures used throughout are a great way for beginning readers to learn meaning and how text structures can support understanding. Really great use of the structures throughout: detailed glossary, captions, sidebars, and index.
I thought this book was very helpful in allowing the children to get to know what part is what on big machines. They gave very good vocab words in the bad of the book. I also liked the fact that towards the end of the story they gave you questions to answer to test if you have an understanding of the content in the book. I would use this book in the block section and use it while learning about machines.
