The second of the two Nicholas Sparks film adaptations out this April, The Last Song centres on music-prodigy-turned-rebel-teen Ronnie **(**Miley Cyrus), who's sent to spend the summer with her father at his home in a North Carolina beach town. Here she finds herself falling for volley-ball-playing naturalist and mechanic Will Blakelee and reconnecting with the music that she once loved.

Nicholas Sparks actually wrote this film with Miley Cyrus in mind for the role of Ronnie and she does make a convincing rebellious adolescent.Liam Hemsworth is sometimes a bit wooden, but there's definitely chemistry between him and Miley, who are dating in real life. Ronnie's little brother Jonah (Bobby Coleman) offers welcome relief from the heavy storylines and manages to have bagged himself some of the funniest dialogue. All in all, this is a moving film but, maybe because it comes so soon after Dear John, feels a little formulaic.

Released: 30 April
