We love a good fan theory that confirms our deeply held conviction that all Disney animated movies are somehow connected. But hold it: Mandy Moore, a.k.a. Rapunzel from the modern classic Tangled, is here to put one conjecture about her movie and another crowd favorite to rest—and honestly, we're breathing a sigh of relief that this one's not true.
In an interview with TVLine to promote the Disney Channel original movie Tangled: Before Ever After, Moore was asked about one particularly macabre fan theory that claims that Tangled and Frozen are connected because Anna and Elsa's parents perished on a sunken ship en route from Arendelle to Corona so the king and queen could attend the wedding of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. This, fans claim, would apparently explain why Rapunzel and Flynn were spotted at Elsa's coronation, because the two royal families are clearly close enough to attend each other's big occasions, like weddings and coronations.
So does the theory hold water? According to Moore, not a chance.
"That's a pretty morbid fan theory," Moore said (with a horrified look on her face) when the interviewer asked about her thoughts on the speculation. "There is no connection as far as I know…but sure, people can imagine what they will all day—that's their prerogative."
This isn't the first time Moore has been charged with confirming or denying a Tangled connection. On her new hit series This Is Us, which is written by the same person who wrote the screenplay for Tangled, Moore utters a line that seems awfully familiar to those of us who are fans of Rapunzel, and the actress seems to think it was no coincidence that it was included in the script.
And hey, just because this Frozen theory doesn't happen to be true, that doesn't mean there aren't others that have been tagged as real. According to Frozen director Chris Buck, a theory that claims Anna and Elsa are sisters of another Disney movie star, Tarzan, is 100 percent true.
