"SVARTA BJØRN" was a young girl born in Offersøy-Norway in 1878 and died only 23 years old in 1901 during her hard life as a cook for the men "Rallar" who build the railway between Narvik and Kiruna. Her dream was to travell the world, but she never did. This beautiful, dark-haired intelligent girl has become legendary. Her real name was Anna Rebecka Hofstad. Her grave is at Tornehamns Rallar-cemetery in northern Sweden close to the Norwegian border under a white woddencross with the inscription : "Anna - Norge 12/10-01.

Narvik selebrates one week in the wintertime, every March, Rallar and Svara Bjørn : "Vinterfestuka" and in June there is a march from Sweden to Norway and Rombaksbotn called "Svarta Bjørn Marsjen"
