Tales of Valor Screenshot Analysis

By lastwagen74 - 16th March 2009 - 01:39 AM

Welcome to our Tales of Valor Screenshot Analysis. In this newspost, we will analyze some recent pictures in more depth, covering historical background of the vehicles, how it relates to Company of Heroes, and other predictions or observations. We were lucky to find these new screenshots that were hosted on shacknews.

Without further ado, lets talk about the first screenshot. The vehicle here is the Kangaroo Armored Personnel Carrier. Just like the name says, it was used to transport troops safely and quickly. Unlike other carriers, such as the M3 Halftrack or the Sd.Kfz. 251, the Kangaroo had better armor, allowing it to support tanks along the way. It was originally created by the Canadian Army, but when Kangaroos were found to be successful, the British forces started to use them too. Their ability to maneuver in the field with tanks was a major advantage over other carriers. Our observations so far suggest that the Kangaroo will be able to carry up to six soldiers or two units of three soldiers, such as the engineers. In this screenshot, we see an Infantry Section inside. Lastly, if you have not recognized the map, it's Angoville.

In this screenshot, you can see the T17 Armored Car, a counterpart to the M8. It was produced in number by the Americans. As of right now, we are not completely sure, but we're predicting that this vehicle will replace the current M8 Greyhound. One more thing we can say is that the vehicle seems to have a machine gunner upgrade, much like the Sherman or M8.

In the third screenshot, you can see the Kangaroo in action. While it doesn't have any kind of weaponry, it allows the units inside to shoot. This means that the old base rush strategy may come back. You can also see that the Defensive Doctrine is not helping the Wehrmacht player, because the units inside the Kangaroo are not prone to suppression.

Here is the T17 Armored Car in action, battling some axis infantry. We are wondering if the sandbags could possibly be the new side skirt upgrades.

In screenshot five, you can see a new unit: the M18 Hellcat. It was nicknamed the "Hellcat" because it was recorded as the fastest tracked armored fighting vehicle during the war. In testing, it reached a stunning top speed of over 50 mph. The M18 Hellcat was designed from the start to be a fast tank-destroyer. As a result, it was smaller, lighter, and significantly faster. However, it carried the same gun as the Sherman 76 mm model. It also mounted an M2 Browning machine gun.

The main disadvantages of the M18 were its very light armor and the inconsistent performance of its 76 mm gun. The 76 mm gun was unable to counter the frontal armor of later German tanks, such as the Tiger or the Panther. In fact, we see that the M18 is having a hard time battling a Tiger. From the looks of things, it wasn't the first M18 either. Due to the historical background, we're predicting that this tank will either be replacing the M10, or will be introduced as an alternative. Either way, it wont a heavy tank destroyer, and definitely can't take much damage. This may be a pretty micro-intensive unit.

In this screenshot, you can see the M18 under fire while on a road. However, the M18 should be the fastest tank ingame due to its design and speed bonuses when on roads.

Up next, we have the good ol' Schwimmwagen. It literally means "Swimming Car" in German. It has already seen some action in the beta. Back then, it had replaced the original Wehrmacht bike. We're not quite sure if this vehicle be able to go across rivers like on Semois, but that would definitely be a welcome addition.

IPB Image

The vehicle featured here is the Geschützwagen 39H. It does look a little similar to the current Marder III, and is a tank destroyer. It probably operates just like the Marder does in Opposing Fronts.

The next four screenshots all feature the same vehicle. It's called the Hotchkiss H39 and it was used by the Germans. The screenshots seem to indicate that the vehicles come with the "Stuka zu Fuss" barrage upgrade, or comes like that when produced. Either way, this might be the replacement for the current halftrack upgrade. The only noticable difference is that the tank has better armor and a gun.

IPB Image

Here you can see a Hotchkiss H39 acting as anti infantry vehicle, while still being a mobile artillery piece.

Here is another screenshot of the Hotchkiss H39 in action, battling allied infantry.

Another Hotchkiss H39 can be seen here rolling down the street, while being repaired by some Pioneers. In the background (behind the explosion), there is a British Command Truck.

IPB Image

In this screenshot, you can see the Schwimmwagen again. This time it replaces the current Kettenkrad. It does not carry a gun, but looks very cool anyways. As aforementioned, the Schwimmwagen saw a little action in the beta already, and received positive feedback.

IPB Image

This is the Geschützwagen 39H. It has a 7.5cm main gun designed to destroy enemy tanks. In real life, it saw action on the Western Front in 1944.

IPB Image

The last two screenshots show what looks like either the Renault R35 or another Hotchkiss H39. While it doesn't have the same gun as the previous Hotchkisses in screenshots, it has the same suspension and general shape. If indeed it is the Renault, that would be another new unit for the game. The Renault was used by many countries, including Germany. The tank saw many uses such as for training and was used in battle.

IPB Image

Lastly, you can see the undetermined tank battling some infantry on an intense battlefield.

That's it for now! Thanks for reading, and hopefully you enjoyed it.
