Justin Timberlake’s New Album Barely Misses Landing Multiple Hot 100 Hits

Following

Justin Timberlake’s new album Everything I Thought It Was arrives on a number of Billboard rankings this chart week. The set didn’t perform as well as his past collections, but it was still a welcome comeback for the singer’s die-hard fans. Sadly, while the project was a top 10 win on a number of albums lists, it failed to produce any new Hot 100 hits in the week the full-length debuted–though it almost managed to do so.

Three songs from Everything I Thought It Was debut on this week’s Bubbling Under Hot 100. The Billboard list acts essentially as a 25-spot extension of the Hot 100, which is the main songs chart published every week that ranks the most-consumed tracks in the nation.

The highest-ranking of Timberlake’s tracks from Everything I Thought It Was that appears on this week’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 is “Drown,” which isn’t actually new to the ranking. “Drown” was released as a promotional cut from the then-forthcoming project a few weeks before it arrived in full. It never reached the Hot 100, which means it was eligible to return to this roster as the album made its mark on the charts.

“Drown” is back at No. 9 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 this week. It previously topped out at No. 1 on the list, which essentially made it the one-hundred-and-first most-consumed track in the nation. Now it’s a top 10 hit again–though not the kind that Timberlake was hoping for.

New to the Bubbling Under Hot 100 from Timberlake is “No Angels,” which blasts onto the ranking at No. 19. That tune is the second official single from the full-length. It came with its own music video, and streams of that visual likely helped the cut perform as well as it did.

Just behind “No Angels” comes another track from Everything I Thought It Was. “Paradise” opens at No. 20 on the 25-spot tally, and Timberlake isn’t alone in that win. The tune features NSYNC, the boy band that helped make him a global superstar decades ago. When the album arrived, fans quickly made “Paradise” a bestseller on iTunes.

So far, only one track from Everything I Thought It Was has managed to crack the Hot 100. Lead single “Selfish” opened and peaked at No. 19 earlier this year. It’s still present on that ranking this frame, lifting to No. 30 on the chart.
