Miranda Kerr On Working From Home And Navigating The Business Of Beauty In 2020

This article is more than 3 years old.

Supermodels who have so seamlessly transitioned into their roles as entrepreneurs are fascinating. They remind us that we can pursue several passions and accomplish a myriad of things in a lifetime. Gone are the days when individuals could only ever become one thing—a model, an entrepreneur, a business executive, a mother. I come from a generation where both elders and even contemporaries would warn us about becoming “a jack of all trades, a master of none.”

For decades it was these types of limiting beliefs that have kept many from pursuing their passions and purpose. It was also the very same mindset that held us back from discovering our full potential. It’s when we hear about women breaking the glass ceiling or individuals challenging the norm that we, too, become empowered to pave our own paths.

Miranda Kerr’s journey as supermodel, wellness author and later, founder and CEO of skincare label KORA Organics, is more than inspiration. It is, above all, testament that when we let our passions and sense of purpose act as our compass, anything is possible—even in a year like 2020.

Truly Organic, No Green Washing

As founder and CEO for KORA Organics, Miranda eats, breathes and lives the lifestyle her brand represents. It’s not just about merely attaching her name to the company portfolio, but more of an extension of her advocacy for wellness. That she is so deeply immersed and hands-on with the business creates that strong connection between her and the market. Miranda begins, “KORA Organics is so much more than clean beauty. We are certified organic…I truly believe that this is one of the reasons why our products are giving people around the world such incredible results with their skin.” KORA Organics, in staying true to its ethos of transparency, has been verified by COSMOS/EcoCert and EWG. “No green washing here!” adds Miranda.

Pioneering Clean Beauty With A Noni Glow

KORA ORGANICS launched in 2009 and is now considered as one of the pioneers of the clean beauty movement. Founded and self funded by Miranda, the brand grew international recognition and acclaim through its hero product, Noni Glow Face Oil. By 2017, KORA Organics had begun global expansion into 30 countries. It also started to expand its product offerings to include cleansers, face sheets and even supplements. Miranda discloses, “I usually create products that I myself need and want. Whenever I am creating a product, I really have envisioned exactly what I want it to be: the smell, texture, results. The research and development to create the product is one of my favorite aspects.” Alongside some of the world’s most reputable organic chemists, the KORA Organics team leaves no stone unturned in ensuring that all their products deliver on their promises.

Navigating The Crisis And Managing Product Launches

Despite its global following and stellar product reviews, Miranda and her entire team at KORA ORGANICS has had to figure out ways of navigating the crisis of 2020. Keeping a business afloat during the most unprecedented of times has been a daunting task not exclusive to beauty brands but across all industries as well. Miranda recalls, “A lot of our brick and mortal retail partners closed doors in the beginning so the loss of in-store foot traffic was challenging.” But as fate would have it, strengthening digital presence had already been on top of the priority list for the team at KORA Organics early in 2020. “It was natural for us to pivot our marketing and sales efforts to online,” opines the founder and entrepreneur. She expounds that most of their investment were directed on digital efforts. They also partnered with new online retailers including Cult Beauty and Revolve. By January, the brand will be available at Look Fantastic.

Product launches slated for the summer had been moved to a later date. “I was so excited for the launch, but ultimately we had to make the decision on what would be best for the company,” confesses Miranda. By 2021, KORA ORGANICS will launch four new products. Miranda hints, “Not only are they amazing formulas, but the packaging is divine and sustainable—featuring glass bottles and refillable pods.”

Celebrating Small Victories and Silver Linings

Changes and challenges considered, she declares that there have been several silver linings where work-life balance and wellness are concerned. “Before the pandemic, I had already been used to working from home since I recently had my son Myles. I love being able to bounce between work and the kids and it was something I was already used to managing. My team is great and knows that I’m still engaged on a call even if I’m multi tasking and breast feeing at the same time.” Like other company owners, the year revealed the viability of a work-from-home set up. “Work-life balance is so important both for me and my employees. I think 2020 has helped pave the way for healthier ways of working and doing business.” The team at KORA ORGANICS utilize apps like Microsoft Teams to help keep things efficient.

Miranda’s Wellness and Holiday Must Haves

To prepare for the Holidays, Miranda and her team also thought to enhance the digital retail experience on the KORA ORGANICS website. Miranda details, “In addition to our usual Holiday kits, we decided to launch a gift guide of curated (non skincare) wellness products that I love to use. We know everyone is spending a lot more time at home and self care is something that is more important than ever.” Items on the gift guide are wellness must-haves for Miranda.

“Meditation is something that has been extremely helpful with relieving stress for me during lockdown. I try to meditate every morning for 20 minutes.” To enhance your meditation practice, Miranda’s Gift Guide includes raw crystals, affirmation books and essential oils.

“Doing a gua sha facial massage during my morning routine has been relaxing and it helps stimulate circulation and reduce puffiness while lifting toning and sculpting your face,” says Miranda.

At home workouts and work-from-home call for safe, easy massage tools to help ease tension and aches. Miranda suggests, “I have also been consistently using my Theragun mini as a massage took to alleviate any aches or pains, especially on my neck and shoulders.”

To end her days, Miranda applies the Noni Glow Sleeping Mask. She advices, “Beauty sleep is very important to our overall wellness, so I make sure I put my phone on airplane mode before I go to sleep as it really helps when I need to disconnect.”
