Last October, word arrived of a new sci-fi film in development called The Discovery, which was to have starred Rooney Mara and Nicholas Hoult. It's now about to shoot, but Hoult is not longer attached and Jason Segel has taken his place.

The film, co-written by The One I Love duo Charlie McDowell and Justin Lader and directed once again by McDowell, is set in a world where the existence of the afterlife has been scientifically proven. Segel is the son of the man (Robert Redford) who made the astonishing discovery in the first place, and he falls in love with Mara, a woman whose past is tinged with tragedy. You have to wonder if the news that there is life after death will play some factor in how their relationship progresses.

It's unusual to get the first word on a new piece of casting from a local paper (via The Playlist), but What's Up Newp got the scoop, even if the publication's title does sound like the greeting for a morning DJ. The report mentions that the film is shooting this month and next in Rhode Island and the awesomely named Aquidneck Island.
