Teurnell replaces creative director Liisa Kessler, whose departure was announced on 1 February after two years in the role.
Teurnell brings 34 years of experience in fashion retail, having commenced her career as a visual manager for H&M in 1990.
In 2003, she was promoted to head of design for the Swedish fashion retailer, overseeing accessories, footwear, lingerie and basics.
In 2011, Teurnell transferred to the Paris office of H&M Group-owned womenswear brand & Other Stories, where she held the role of head of design until 2014.
Subsequently, Teurnell joined Finnish fashion house Marimekko as creative director, before returning to H&M Group as head of design for lifestyle brand Arket in 2017.

Teurnell founded her eponymous womenswear brand Teurn Studios in 2021. Retail prices for Teurn Studios' SS24 collection, available online DTC and stocked on luxury etailer Ssense, range from £380 for a pair of high-waisted barrel-leg cotton trousers to £1,650 for a half-zip leather anorak.
In March 2023, Teurnell exited Arket after three decades at H&M Group.
