Lets hope the opener of season 28's eighth episode of The Simpsons isn't a premonition, as things are looking bleak.

In the credits for the upcoming episode titled 'Dad Behaviour', the family try and make their normal trek home from work and school, but all except Bart die before arriving back at Evergreen Terrace.

As the animation scans over Springfield, all seems normal until you take a closer look and notice that in an apocalyptic move, the town is overrun by burning tyres and hooligans.

The standard sequence of Bart dashing home from school is cut short when his skateboard snaps in half.

Next, Homer fails to leave the nuclear power plant without first swallowing a radioactive plutonium rod, and Lisa is squashed to death by her saxophone as she tries to sneak out of music class.

With Maggie at the real wheels of the car and Marge dozing in the backseat, they aren't safe either. Little Maggie first steers their car off a cliff and into a barn, before it sinks in a lake. With the vehicle submerged, Marge's face-down body floats to the top of the water.

So Bart's the only one to make it home safe and sound, albeit with his skateboard still broken. But there's a silver lining: after lining up pictures of his family on the sofa where they usually all hunker down, he says: "Well I finally get the remote."

Even more bleakly, The Simpsons predicted President Trump over 15 years ago - and while it's nice to be right, they wish they'd been wrong.
