1976 Honda Civic Lady Prototype Hatchback

The Honda Civic was first introduced in 1973 as Honda's first truly conventional small car. With the emphasis on conservative styling and efficiency, the original Civics would become a huge sales success both in the United States and internationally. It is among a rare group of automobiles that has been in continuous production in various forms and has always been among the best-selling automobiles in the world.

This is the one and only 1976 Honda Civic 'Lady' prototype. This car was reportedly first shown at the 1976 Geneva Motor Show. This car was penned by noted Italian designer Sergio Coggiola, who was also responsible for Saab's Sonett III. It utilizes the first generation underpinnings and previews elements of a design that would debut with the third generation Civics.

It is truly rare for a Japanese manufacturer to commission an Italian coachbuilder to be involved with a car. Creating incredible interest, it was very well received in Geneva. It showcases many styling cues that would later be used on the third generation Civics, which would debut in 1983.

This Honda prototype spent many years with the Swiss Honda distributor after the show. It was exported to the United States in 2016. The odometer currently shows approximately 3,300 kilometers and it is completely original and unrestored.
