‘Victor Horta and the Grammar of Art Nouveau’

18 Oct.'23 →
14 Jan.'24

What remains of Horta's Art Nouveau if we abstract the style and if we discard his typical vegetal vocabulary? The exhibition Victor Horta and the Grammar of Art Nouveau probes the fundamental themes and lines of force in the oeuvre of the most famous Belgian architect of all time, in collaboration with numerous Horta experts. The intimate link between Horta's Art Nouveau and Leopold II's Congo Free State is also scrutinised.
In addition, contemporary artists provide a current perspective on the work of Horta. Photographer Maxime Delvaux created new photos of various Horta buildings. The film Vivre la maison Horta by Marie-Ange Guilleminot premieres alongside the exhibition and can be viewed in the exhibition halls.

The exhibition nicely complements the exhibition Victor Horta versus Art Nouveau. Horta’s Vocabulary, which runs from 23 March 2023 to 7 January 2024 at the Horta Museum.
