The Dubai Land Department has officially renamed Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road neighborhood after the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower at 830 meters. Celebrating its 14th anniversary, the Burj Khalifa stands prominently over other renowned skyscrapers along the Emirate’s busiest road.
This represents the most significant name change among the 28 areas listed by the Dubai Land Department. The Sheikh Zayed Road stretch in Dubai features various buildings with apartments, offices, hotel apartments, and rooms.
The property classifieds website Bayut states that investors, renters, and tourists favor the neighborhood due to its proximity to famous landmarks and key areas such as Downtown, Business Bay, JLT, and Dubai Marina, among others.
The Dubai Land Department has renamed several areas, including Motor City to Al Hebiah First, Ranches to Wadi Al Asafa 6, Sports City to Al Hebiah Fourth, and Al Quoz 2 to Ghadeer Al Tair. The full list of the 28 areas along with their area codes is provided below:
It’s not immediately clear when or why the Dubai Land Department made the name changes. Recently, Dubai introduced a new mechanism for naming roads. In the first phase of the initiative, they named the roads in the Al Khawaneej 2 area after local trees and flowers.
Al Ghaf Street, named after one of the most popular local tree species, and other streets in the area received names such as Al Sidr, Basil, Al Faggy, Al Samar, and Al Sharish.
