This is a telephoto zoom lens with excellent cost performance, for it is capable of macro photography with a 1:2 maximum close-up magnification at the 300 mm focal length. It also has a switch for changeover to macro photography at focal lengths between 200 mm and 300 mm. The minimum focusing distance is 1.5 m/59 inches at all zoom settings. We used SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass in this lens for excellent correction of chromatic aberration. And, we effectively corrected for fluctuation of aberration due to focusing. It is the ideal lens for portraits, sports photography, nature photography, and other types of photography that frequently use the telephoto range.
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Maybe I am doing something wrong, but the contrast of the pictures leaves me to do some pretty heavy photoshopping. I don't have that problem with any other lens (including my other Sigma lens). Most pictures, especially when zoomed in, have a gray tint to them. Unlike some other 4-5.6 Sigma lenses, this one doesn't perform very well in low light. This lense is average at BEST. The best part about this lens though is its macro capabilities. Zoomed all the way in, with the macro mode engaged, you can take some really first class macro shots. Overall, it's a decent lens, but nothing to write home about.
This is an OLD version of this lens, The 'D' type in the title simply means deluxe, because they had nothing more to put. Made in Australia for 35mm film and now can work with SOME cameras, It did not work with my Nikon, I requested a full refund, with return, ... However, seller expects me to pay return postage when their misleading description is the reason for returning the product I'm taking this up with Amazon now, so I will post again and update on how this goes,. Just be cautious when buying any lens, Sigma makes an amazing lens, at an amazing price, and the 70 300mm lens no one's bag should be without, but research a little and know when, where and what it was made for and by who.
