This horror classic inspired two sequels, a remake (fittingly released on 6.6.06) and a TV series. Veteran composer Jerry Goldsmith won his only Oscar for the film’s choral and orchestral score, and its theme, “Ave Satani,” was an unexpected nominee for Original Song.
