Tamil God Murugan

Murugan is one of the ancient god in india. He is the son of Parvati and Shiva, the brother of Ganesha and a god whose legends have many versions in Hinduism. Murugan also known as Subrahmanya, karthikeyan, vellavan and bala murugan. Murugan was followed by tamil peoples wherever communities of the Tamil people live worldwide, particularly in the Tamil Nadu state of India, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Canada, and Reunion. Peacock is vehicle of lord murugan. He destroyed the lot of demons Tarakasuran, Simhamukha and Surapadma nadhan.

The word Thaipusam is a combination of the name of the tamil month, Thai, and the name of a star, Pusam. The reason for celebrate the thaipusam is lord murugan was destroyed the soorapadman. People celebrate in thaipusam festival like the Kavadi Attam ("kavadi dance") is a ceremonial act of devotional sacrifice through dance, food offerings, and bodily self-mortification. It is often performed by devotees during the festival of Thaipusam in honor of Murugan. Outside India, Thaipusam celebrations also takes place in countries such as Malaysia, the United States, Mauritius, South Africa and Singapore.

In Pazhamudircholai the Lord played with the great Tamil poetess Avvaiyar asking her what fruit she wished, cooked or uncooked – Sutta Pazham or Sudadha Pazham. In palani the main deity is made out of Navabashanam and was created and established by Siddhar Bhogar.Once the god naradhar went to see lord shiva with a fruit of knowledge( gnana palam ). Naradar gave this fruit(gnana palam) to shiva.Shiva decided to give that fruit to any of his two sons. He challenged his two sons who completed first to encircle the whole world. Then he said that the winner, whomever encircles the world first will get this fruit. Murugan took his vehicle peacock and started the journey. But,lord ganesha who is the elder son of lord shiva explained and summarized that his parents are only the world for him. Now the ganesha encircled his parents and pleased them with his knowledge. Lord shiva impressed so he gave that fruit to ganesha. Murugan got angry with this event, so he left his parents and decide to stay with tamil people.
