For a lab tech, CSI: Miami’s Natalia Boa Vista certainly has led an exciting work life – and that pattern continues this Sunday at 10/9c, when in the wake of a series of serial killings, she gets kidnapped by a suspect determined to argue his innocence. Eva La Rue shared with TVLIne a preview of the intense outing, as well as let slip a provocative peek at what the CBS crime drama has planned for its Season 9 finale.
TVLINE | Whenever we get a Natalia-centric episode, it’s never because she, like, got promoted and there’s a big party. The circumstances are always a bit grave.
Yeah, it’s always some sort of “damsel in distress” scenario!
TVLINE | Why does this guy abduct her? Was she simply in the wrong place at the wrong time?
One of the things he says to her is he’s read a lot about me and feels like I will be open to listening to his plea. He feels like I was his best choice to convince somebody that he was innocent. But I think if somebody else had been available, he would have kidnapped them as well. It’s really not so much Natalia as who was easiest to kidnap — and that seemed to be me. [Laughs]
TVLINE | As a hostage, is she his ticket to freedom?
That’s what he’s hoping. He’s hoping to convince her that he was framed, and that he really is innocent.
TVLINE | Is Natalia by chance packing heat? Does she have any tricks up her sleeve to escape?
No, but they let the camera roll while I was seriously duct-taped and zip-tied to the bottom of the van. And with varying degrees of success I escaped… or didn’t. They didn’t [bind me] lightly, so I was really chewing through the duct tape.
TVLINE | And duct tape smells funky, right?
And it tastes even funkier. [Laughs]
TVLINE | What else is coming up during the remainder of the season?
There’s an episode with a co-ed found dead in a hot tub – that one involves a split personality – and there’s one where Horatio is involved in the crash of a small plane…. But I think one of the coolest episodes is going to be the season finale. We just wrapped it, and it’s awesome. There are two team members down at the end of the episode, which makes for a really good cliffhanger.
TVLINE | And by “down” you specifically mean…?
Shot, and in serious peril. Yeah, it’s been a season with a lot more running, jumping, shooting, tackling….
TVLINE | What can you tell us about the new character being played by Natasha Henstridge (Eli Stone), who shows up in the finale?
She is a Secret Service agent, and I think she is going to be there for the first episode of the next season too. I don’t know, they may even be thinking of her for recurring [status, if Henstridge’s The Secret Circle pilot is not picked up by The CW]. She’d be great, she’s a really sweet girl.
TVLINE | The speculation is she’s Horatio’s next honey.
A loooooove interest, exactly. She’d be a really good addition.
TVLINE | Before we go, I wanted to ask you, as an alumna of All My Children: What do you think about the rumor that ABC may put that soap opera out to pasture later this year?
Oh my god, is that really a rumor? This year?! I hadn’t heard that…. Nooooo. That would break my heart! It would absolutely break my heart. It’s such a staple of daytime television. It’s where so many of us got our start, it was a jumping off point for a lot of people. A lot of people would be heartbroken by that.
Miami fans, who do you think will be the two team members down in the finale?
Dang its too!..I only got one..Frank…dont know who else but i cant wait to see the actual episode :D
I’d say Frank and Calleigh. We haven’t seen much of Calleigh this year, so it would be good to see her in an action sequence in an episode this year.
One of the people who’ll be shot in the season finale is Renee. They revealed that weeks ago. I have no idea who the other will be, though. It’s gonna be awesome!!!
I don’t believe Renee would be considered a “Team Member”, so it would have to be two other people. Since Eric and Calleigh have had plenty of hospital scenes and TPTB seem to have forgotten that Calleigh is the leading lady and this year is all about Nat (unfortunately), I’m gonna say Nat and Ryan are the two that get shot.
Calleigh has been MIA as Emily Proctor just had a baby in December. I’m worried she may want to leave the show now with her baby here. Plus Delko who is portrayed by Adam Rodriquez and he’s directed 2 episodes this season. UGH!
“OMG, if and thats a BIG if one of the two members going down happen to be ryan, i will not be able to sleep or eat for days! I absolutely loooove ryan wolfe! I will sure be crying that were true. :-( u cant do this 2 me guys!
Actually, Rodriguez wrote and directed ONE episode this season, ‘Hunting Ground’ (and it was exceptionally good). I don’t know which two team members will be down, but I really, really hope it’s not Eric or Calleigh. I’ve seen enough drama from those two in the past 4 seasons to make me wish they just die already!
It’s time to give someone else a turn and I’m have a great time this season watching Ryan and Natalia finally get some action. A little more Frank (and it appears that is coming) and I’m in heaven!
I can Not Believe the rumors about CSI: Miami being cancelled! What’s worse, is the way they appear to be cutting it off. Natalia drowning in a trunk, Horatio shot (again), and the suspect getting away!? WTF!? I have Not been this let down since the series Angel was cancelled after its fifth year (also leaving its fans hanging over the fate of its characters)!
