CBS is still looking for its perfect MacGyver, but they’ve found another key player in the meantime: CSI vet George Eads.
The actor has been cast in CBS’ reimagining of the 1985 series, which will follow twentysomething Angus MacGyver as he is recruited into a clandestine organization and uses his knack for problem-solving in unconventional ways.
Per our sister site Deadline, Eads will appear in the pilot as Lincoln, a man who could be written off as a conspiracy theorist, but is actually a legitimate government employee.
Additionally, the original series’ creator, Lee David Zlotoff, has signed on to executive-produce the reboot.
Ready for more of today’s newsy nuggets? Well…
* Ahead of its March 10 launch (9/8c), A&E’s docuseries 60 Days In has been renewed for a second season, to debut later this year. The unscripted project follows innocent participants who become incarcerated at the Clark County Jail in Jeffersonville, Ind., to shed light on the harsh realities of the correctional system.
* Also renewed: Netflix’s culinary docuseries Chef’s Table, which was greenlit for Seasons 2, 3 and 4 on Tuesday. Six new episodes will premiere on Friday, May 27.
* Devin Kelley (Resurrection) is set to co-star in Frequency, The CW’s reimagining of the 2000 sci-fi film. In the pilot — which centers on Raimy (The Flash‘s Peyton List), a police detective who discovers that she is able to speak via ham radio with her late father (Nashville‘s Riley Smith) — Kelley will play Julie, Raimy’s mother, whose life may be tragically knocked off course when Raimy starts interfering with the past, Deadline reports.
Which of today’s TVLine Items has you talking?
A Frequency TV series? Hmmm…I’m intrigued. I love the movie. My dad and I try to watch it every year for Father’s Day.
Actually, they should have a brother and sister. Thanks for your post.
Peyton List was on the Flash???
she is capt cold sister
You MIGHT be thinking of the blonde, teens Peyton List. This is the brunette, 20’s Peyton List. Just in case you were picturing it wrong.
I was, thanks for the clarification!!
George Eads returning to the CBS family? That’s something and now cast in the MacGyver reboot.
Different TV Item I haven’t seen on TVLine – did anyone else know “Blue Mountain State” released a follow-up movie? Saw it on Netflix. It’s called “The Rise of Thadland” and seems to have all the main cast back from the first few minutes I watched, but I had no idea this existed or was even coming!
Blue Mountain State was inventively disgusting, but Alan Ritchson was always 100% committed to Thad’s crazy, so I’m looking forward to getting time to watching this!
I really hope The CW picks up Frequency because I LOVE the cast and the premise sounds pretty cool.
Why is this being billed as a reboot when it is in fact a remake?
Can McGyver be a woman? Or a black man? Or an asian man? That would be interesting hehehe…
The husband says, “Really? If he’s on it, I’ll watch it!”
Didn’t know they were remaking McGuyver. Another TV classic they just can’t leave alone.
I miss Richard Dean Anderson’s mullet. Is the original on Netflix?
It’s on Heroes Network(TWC) & POP(TWC).
Sorry but he will never be a lead man. There’s just too much about him that says second stringer.
