Pompeii - the most famous archaeological site in Italy

Pompeii was a city that is particularly known today because of one of the most severe tragedies of mankind. For several decades, the ancient city was teeming with life. But in 79 AD, a momentous eruption of the volcano Vesuvius completely destroyed the city.

For many years there was nothing left of Pompeii. The entire city was buried under a thick layer of volcanic ash. It was not until the 18th century that archaeologists rediscovered Pompeii during excavations. Since then, the ancient city has been one of the most important archaeological sites for the study of antiquity.

Many of the buildings in Pompeii are in extremely excellent condition today. There are so many sights to see in the archaeological site. You can easily walk around Pompeii from morning to night without getting bored. The Mystery Villa, the Amphitheatre as well as the Forum are only a small selection of the countless highlights. Accordingly, the visit is worthwhile!
