More Swedes Will Die in Afghanistan

Swedish Supreme Commander Sverker Göranson says more Swedish soldiers will wounded or killed in Afghanistan. He calls for a deeper discussion over Swedish involvement there.

In an interview with Swedish Radio News, the head of the Swedish military took up the recent deaths of two Swedish officers and a local interpreter in Afghanistan and compares Swedish casualties there with those suffered by neighboring Denmark. Denmark has lost more than 30 soldiers, while four Swedes have died in Afghanistan.

Göranson says the willingness of the Danes to accept such losses may reflect clear choices, such as Denmark’s long-time membership in NATO. Swedes, he says, haven’t made those decisions.
