Ultima Online: A world created by Origin.
It must be the only game which you never get tired of playing. You might forget to eat, sleep and even shower, and if you think I am exaggerating, then you probably have never played this game. In fact, I even heard once "more you earn in this game, more you loose in real life".
Ultima Online is a fantasy role-playing game designed in a universe called Ultima. Somhow, it always reminded me middle-earth stories. Endless lands, dungeons, orcs, creatures, paladins and mages. Since the game was first published in 1997 it is in 2d graphics and most people wanted to play like that even when 3d extensions arrived.
When i look back, I realize that what made Ultima Online so special was the freedom it gave to players. Imagine a world where you can be anything. A brave paladin, a blacksmith, a mage, a tailor, a fisherman or a cruel bandit who hunts other players.
You may go to war with other players to protect a castle or perhaps join killers to becoma a fear of everyone. If you don`t fancy wars you may become a merchant. Buy a ship and go fishing. If you may start looking for more adventures, you may master treasury hunting and experience more. And if you get rich enough, you can buy a house. As i said, anything and everything was possible in Ultima Online world. It was so far from the reality yet so close to the way it functions in many ways.
Today, after 20 years there are still some active servers to play old version of Ultima Online. And I have a feeling that it will never die.
I didn't have the best internet capabilities when this thing was big yet I still managed to go into this every now and then.

Ultima Online is one of those games that never goes away. For many of us it was the first MMO, and I myself have been found to return to it from time to time. I've never been any good at it, in fact the furthest I ever got was on a free shard where I had finally bought a huge plot of land to build a house, and then I quit after I died and lost a ton of stuff. Nevertheless I still have fond memories of the game. It's allure and mystique has yet to be properly reimagined.
Following you I never got the chance to play ultima I was a wow dude. I know without ultima and everquest WoW would of never been a thing! WoW was dumbed down compared to that!
Still my favorite game of all time! I played sphere servers which are free. But it was the most fun I ever had playing video games. I always wish I could go back
